Miss Crouch

Year 2 Teacher

Welcome to Year 2!

We hope you have all had a wonderful summer and we are looking forward to working with you and your children this year.

The teachers in Year 2 are Mrs Birtwistle (2NB) and Miss Crouch (2EC). Miss Thompson and Mrs Tomkinson are the teaching assistants in 2NB and Mrs Walker and Mrs Moore are the teaching assistants in 2EC. On Tuesdays Mr Cairns will teach us P E.

A few reminders:

Homework:   Spellings are sent home weekly and Maths/English homework is sent home on alternate weeks. There is also Numbots to do whenever you like. We will send login details for Numbots.

Reading:    Reading is the gateway to learning so the more your child reads or listens to you read, the better! Children should read their phonics reading book/colour book as well as their reading for pleasure book and any other books they are interested in. They will bring home a reading folder with a book and diary in week 2 and this folder should be sent into school every day. Children are expected to read the same book three or more times per week for about 10 minutes each time. The reason for this is that reading at home should not be difficult. We want children to feel confident with their reading and by the end of the week they should be able to read their book fluently and with expression. Please write a comment or sign each time your child reads at home. We will check the number of times your child has read and if they have read three times then they will be given a new book for the next week. Children will work with a teacher as part of a small group to focus on reading skills once per week. The day they work with the teacher will be the day they change their book.

PE. Children will need pumps/trainers, shorts and t shirt for summer and long PE trousers and warm long sleeved top for the winter. No football kits please. Please name everything! Both classes have PE on Mondays and Tuesdays. Children should come ready dressed in their PE kit on these days.

Water: Children are encouraged to bring in a bottle of water each day which they can access at any time (within reason). There are water fountains available for children to refill their bottle if they need to. Please ensure your child’s name is on their bottle.

Snack: KS1 children are provided with a piece of fruit at morning playtime. If you would like to send in your own snack then please make sure it is healthy. No chocolate, crisps or sweets please. We are a nut and kiwi free school.

Please contact [email protected] if you need to ask us anything.
