Geography at Hartford 2026
OUR INTENT - What We Teach in Geography
Through Geography, we develop children’s understanding of people, places and environments worldwide. Hartford pupils gain an appreciation of different cultures, reflect on their values and place in the world, and build awareness of sustainability. Geography inspires curiosity about the physical world while supporting engagement with key geographical concepts.
OUR IMPLEMENTATION - How We Teach Geography
Our Geography curriculum is designed in line with the National Curriculum, building pupils’ understanding of physical and human processes. It covers key strands including locational and place knowledge, human and physical geography, fieldwork and geographical skills.
Learning is carefully sequenced across the school, with clear progression from exploring the local area in KS1 to studying the wider world in KS2. Pupils develop mapping, enquiry and fieldwork skills using a range of resources.
Teaching supports all learners through clear modelling, subject-specific vocabulary and scaffolded environments, while providing appropriate challenge. Regular monitoring ensures secure understanding, and a range of experiences both in and out of the classroom create engaging and meaningful learning.
OUR IMPACT - What Our Children Learn in Geography
Our pupils will confidently use age-appropriate geographical vocabulary to discuss the world and understand how it has been shaped, particularly within their local area. They will demonstrate curiosity, ask thoughtful questions and retain relevant, real-world knowledge. Children will develop strong fieldwork skills, using and interpreting maps, atlases and globes, and will be able to compare places and explain key physical processes. They will present their learning in a variety of ways and be well prepared with the knowledge and skills needed for the next stage of their education.
