Spanish at Hartford 2026
OUR INTENT - What We Teach In Spanish
At Hartford Primary School, our intent is to inspire a love of languages and develop pupils’ confidence in communicating in Spanish. Through the Oak National Academy Spanish curriculum, pupils gain the knowledge, vocabulary and cultural understanding needed to become curious, respectful and globally minded citizens, while preparing them for future language learning.
OUR IMPLEMENTATION - How We Teach Spanish
Spanish is taught using the Oak National Academy scheme of work, which provides a carefully sequenced and progressive curriculum. Lessons develop pupils’ skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing, while revisiting key vocabulary and grammatical structures to support retention. Opportunities to explore the cultures and traditions of Spanish-speaking countries are embedded throughout the curriculum.
OUR IMPACT- What Our Children Learn In Spanish
By the time pupils leave Hartford Primary School, they have developed a secure foundation in Spanish and can communicate using familiar vocabulary and phrases with increasing confidence and accuracy. Pupils demonstrate positive attitudes towards language learning, an appreciation of different cultures, and the skills and enthusiasm to continue studying languages at secondary school and beyond.
